Health and safety signs are a part of our daily life and they are necessary. Safety signs will be used on every building site, place of work and public building that you visit or work on.
The use of pictorial symbols which we all take for granted is all thoroughly tested to ensure that they communicate their intended message effectively, and many have to conform to some strict legal and accessibility standards.
It is important for you to have an understanding of the different types of safety sign and be able to instantly recognise the signs that you will come into contact on a daily basis.
There are 5 different types of safety signs:
1) They are yellow and they have triangular pictogram. Hazard Warning Safety Signs warn of personal hazards and dangers in the workplace. Text on the sign can be Caution, Danger or Warning.
2) They are blue and they have circular pictogram. Mandatory Safety Signs convey an action that must be taken. They are things that you must do.
3)They are red and they have circular pictogram. Prohibition Safety Signs are used to prohibit action. They are things you must not do.
4)They are green and they have square pictogram. First Aid Signs, Safe Condition Safety Signs show directions to safety areas such as First Aid, Fire Exit Doors, Emergency Exits and Assembly Points.
5)They are red and have square pictogram. Fire Safety Signs show the location of exits, extinguishers and compliance with fire safety regulations.
